My name is Alice Munro and I am new to this ship. [Ship. That in itself would take time to grow used to. It wasn't like the ship that brought her to the colonies at all.]

Those that are wardens, if you would be so kind to offer me advice perhaps on those here assembled? I know why I am here, but I would like to be made aware of what I am in store for. I do not want to be caught unawares. Not again.

[She hesitates before addressing the inmates.]

Those that are imprisoned, if you also have any information about the ship itself, I should be grateful.

[Stiles lifts his hand in a wave and offers the newcomer a small smile.]

Hey, Alice. I'm Stiles Stilinski. Warden.

As for everyone assembled here...we only know our own inmate's histories in depth, and it's a confidential thing. [One he takes pretty seriously.]

[She manages a smile in return, even if it is small.]

I don't need the histories of inmates, only...advice on what has proven successful? Of the sort of environment this is? It's different than what I know.

[Understatement.]

Oh. Well, it all depends on your inmate, really.

What kind of environment are you used to? If you don't mind my asking.

[Death, destruction, fear, pain.]

It was the colonies in the Americas. New York, specifically.

[He's not as surprised by this as he would have been once. But he's been on the Barge for awhile now, and he knows that people come from all different places and points in time. So he nods a little.]

Well, this place is kind of a mixed bag, I guess? People are from all different points in time and different versions of earth.

[And he's pretty sure that'll be a lot to wrap her mind around, because it had been for him when he'd shown up and he'd been read science fiction books for years.]

There were some saying things about magic and other worlds. I suppose that is something that others are used to now?

[She's not quite sure that she will every get used to the idea. But considering all the things she already had to wrap her mind around, this isn't too different.]

A lot of us are used to that kind of stuff, but not everybody. I promise you aren't the only one who's new to all of that.

[Strangely, that is a relief.]

What sort of world do you come from?

[He pauses, looks a little sheepish.]

One with magic. It's not super prominent or anything, though, but it's there.

[That raises a smile to her lips.]

So, it's not too unfamiliar to you? [She actually laughs softly.]

[He smiles when she laughs.]

Not completely unfamiliar, no.

What year are you from?

2014 was when I was last at home. It's 2015 here, now.

2015? [The number made her head spin.] I suppose the world is very different.

[voluntaryapnea]

Yeah, it kinda is. [He looks down for a second then back up, arching his eyebrows.]

But you'll have a lot of people here happy to help you figure all of it out.

Do you think so? I don't want to burden anyone or have them feel obligated, but it would help.

[voluntaryapnea]

Yeah, definitely. I don't think most people around here will feel burdened. We tend to help each other out.

[Or at least a large portion of them do anyway. Not everyone plays well with others.]
